The results are up for the first battle of the flyweights! Check out how the battle went for both teams under the cut!
When McCall entered, Mortis walked down to the cage with him yelling words of encouragement while walking rapidly by his side. You got this, crack, she would say, you got this whole game covered. McCall looked pleased with the ego boost and quickly made his way into the cage, facing his opponent - ready for it all.
↳ Round 1
Like most first rounds, they are all about testing your opponent in the moment. And that’s just what Pettis and McCall did. Pettis would try to surge forward, take the fight to the ground with quick moves while McCall would casually test distances and punches and long distance kicks. It was a good round for both men.
↳ Round 2
Here is where things get serious - no more playing around. This is it.
Both men started the round still pretty fresh with no sign of exhaustion. Pettis was clearly searching for a good submission to finish the match, while McCall was focusing on takedowns and striking the opponent on the floor. It was a complicated test of strength between these two. On each corner the team owners would yell at their fighters for support and to shout advices.
Pettis even put McCall on some dangerious positions at some point in this round although McCall was able to fight back with some impressive skills only a trained and older fighter can know. Pettis was taking a defensive position, while McCall was laid back now and taking control of the cage.
With a sudden movement, McCall took Pettis on a takedown, Pettis turned to a full guard and aimed for a submission but unexpectedly McCall exploded with confidence in his fists and started attacking Pettis with no mercy.
It was all over when McCall was able to climb on top and just hammer down Pettis until the local referee had to call a stop to the contest.
It was pretty clear the match had ended on that point.
All it took was the official decision!
Referee: The winner, by TKO - Ian McCall!
What a day!
